Dakota is a stunning hand made oil painting on canvas board sized 25 x 35 x 0.3 cms (9.8 x 13.7 x 0.1"). In total with the frame the piece is sized 28.5 x 39 x 1.5cms (11.2 x 15.3" with a depth of 0.6").
I love painting portraits of animals, particularly horses, and I enjoyed working with the deep and rich colours used in this piece. I loved exploring the variety of tones in the subject's coat while capturing a sense of elegance in its pose and expression. I tend to paint in a way where the brush strokes are not always obvious, creating a more realistic style.
I think this painting would make an excellent gift for a horse lover, or as a piece to tie a room together through its warm and inviting colours.

The board this is painted on is strong and thick with a texture that mimics canvas, and allows colours in the underlayer to peek through, creating more depth.
This painting is signed, dated, and provided with material and dimension information on the back, and signed on the front. The piece is professionally framed in a neat fashion. I chose simple and elegant black wood to accentuate the painting without drawing attention away from the details.
